Teapot festival brews plenty of interest
Thousands of people have gathered in Morpeth for the start of the country’s biggest tea party.
People from as close as Maitland and as far as Singapore passed through the Morpeth Gallery during the weekend for the beginning of the 15th annual Weird and Wonderful Novelty Teapot Exhibition.
And with nine more days of teapot action left to go, organisers are thrilled with the result.
“The first few days of the exhibition have been absolutely brilliant,” gallery owner Trevor Richards said.
“We’ve had visitors from all over Australia including two couples from Melbourne, one couple who drove from Brisbane and one couple from Singapore . . . we’re just delighted.”
Even Saturday’s cold and blustery conditions couldn’t keep the teapot enthusiasts away.
“The gallery has been packed the whole weekend and I believe this year’s event will truly exceed past years,” Mr Richards said.
The exhibition, now in its 14th year, showcases almost 4000 novelty teapots from across Australia and the globe.
The display will be on show until August 28.
