Teapot sells for £17,000
A teapot valued at £800 has sold for over £17,000 when it was sold at Canterbury Auction Galleries, despite having a broken handle.
The teapot is a Minton Majolica teapot and is in the shape of a vulture attacking a serpent. It was found in a house after the owner had passed away with the broken handle, which had been glued back on with household glue!
It was sold to a bidder who lives in the far east and who was bidding over the phone and it is expected that the bidder will have the teapot professionally restored.
Green tea may prevent skin cancer
New research suggests that Green Tea could help to prevent skin cancer. Green tea contains a rich polyphenol substance which the researchers believe is the best cancer inhibitor that nature can provide. Green tea also contains an antioxidant which appears to protect the skin from UV damage which then prevents skin tumors from developing.
Millions of people drink cups of tea every day, approximately 78% is black tea and around only 20% drink green tea - the majority of which is consumed in Asian countries. Coincidently enough, research suggests that green tea purchased from Asian markets is likely to be the highest quality green tea.
A robot making tea?
The University of Japan have invented a new way of getting your cup of tea – in the form of a robot. The University have been studying how technology can support human life and have created a robot which has camera eyes and is able to pour tea into a cup.
Another robot which can move on wheels can then deliver the cup of tea to you. The robot uses sensors that are built into the floor, ceiling, and sofa to direct itself to you without spilling the cup of tea.
