High Time For Tea: The British Tradition Is An Elegant Oasis In The Afternoon

Today, people seem content to interact by way of increasingly impersonal technologies — now old-fashioned phone calls have given way to e-mails, text messages and instant message conversations. As much as most of us now depend on these technologies to make plans and keep in touch with distant friends and family, there’s an argument to be made that these interactions are a pale shadow of real, face-to-face conversations.

The perfect antidote to the complexities and barriers of modern life is an afternoon spent engaging in a ritual that is inefficient, un-modern and purely frivolous — the British tradition of high tea.

Paul Cardew and his “Sunshine” Pigs

All Pigs

For those of you who know and love Paul Cardew, you will know that many years ago (when he was young and had more hair!) he produced the original version of the highly collectable Nat West Piggy family.

This was back in December 1982, when Paul was known as “Sunshine Ceramics” and was based in a small unit in Exmouth.  As the demand and popularity of the “Piggies” increased, the production was moved from “Sunshine Ceramics” and was subsequently taken over by Wade Ceramics, who remodelled the original design to suit their manufacture.

Green tea may help lung cancer sufferers

Recently I reported on how green tea can help to prevent skin cancer. New research suggests that green tea may also help to prevent lung cancer.

Scientists in America placed a sample of human lung into a green tea extract for three days. The extract remodeled a protein that was in the cells of the lung. The remodeled protein meant that the cells were less likely to stick together and move which may reduce the speed at which the cancer spreads through the lung.

Teapots for Sale

Hi Everyone

It seems that a lot of people have decided to have a spring clean and I have been contacted by several people who are looking to sell their teapots.

These are the latest teapots for sale. One of these is a Robot teapot. This teapot is one of a very limited number that were produced for one of Paul’s Signing Days held at the teapottery in Bovey Tracey. It is a spectacular teapot, a brilliant bluein colour, in perfect condition and has been sitting on the shelf ever since its purchase.

A robot making tea?

The University of Japan have invented a new way of getting your cup of tea – in the form of a robot. The University have been studying how technology can support human life and have created a robot which has camera eyes and is able to pour tea into a cup.

Another robot which can move on wheels can then deliver the cup of tea to you. The robot uses sensors that are built into the floor, ceiling, and sofa to direct itself to you without spilling the cup of tea.

Christmas Signing Day

Hi Guys

For all you enthusiastic teapot collectors out there, Paul is planning to have a Christmas Signing Day on the 11th November.

Paul is going to have a good old clear out of his Design Studio and the Vault stock so there will be some pretty impressive teapots up for grabs in the auction.  I will give you pictures and information on the teapots available in due course.

We plan to have the usual raffle and signing by Paul and his team for you all on the day.

Paul is also planning to produce two special teapots just for the day.

Teapot Re-launched

Hi Guys

Paul has been working his little socks off down at the factory in Devon and the fruits of his labour are due to be coming through the factory over the next week or so.  Paul, after much demand, has decided to re-launch his famous “Page 3 and Fries” teapot.

I will have about 10 available for those collectors who would love to add one of these great teapots to their ever growing collection.  The teapot will vary slightly from the design on the “sauce packet” but it will still be a great pot.
